Matt Mccoy

J. Kevin Stophel is a member of the Stophel family that has been providing expert legal, tax and financial advice to the community for over 40 years. Kevin transitioned from a career at a Fortune 50 company to Merrill Lynch in the late 90’s as he wanted to apply his education more specifically to his career.

Kevin has a B.A. degree in Economics and a Masters degree in Personal Financial Planning. Additionally, he is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certificant, a Master Planner Advanced Studiesâ„  certificant, a Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist® certificant, a Certified Investment Management Analyst® certificant, an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst®. Aside from helping his clients accomplish their goals, he has also been a branch manager for Merrill Lynch as well as a corporate trainer for new brokers. While at Merrill Lynch, he twice received the honor of Broker of the Year for the Tennessee Valley Complex. Before separating to found Kumquat, Kevin was a Vice President at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Kevin brings a unique set of skills to the table and provides an innovative perspective while delivering expert, integrated solutions for his clients.

Kevin believes in his community and is actively a part of it volunteering significant amounts of his time to it. Aside from civic involvement in various non-profits in the city at both the board and volunteer levels, he is also active in the Downtown Rotary Club and supports its role in the community. He is a Trustee of Bryan College in Dayton, TN, a member of the Tennessee Small Business Development Center Advisory Board, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Business Advisory Board and the Chattanooga State Planned Giving Advisory Committee as well.

He is blessed to have Nikki as his wife and also three children, Jake, Christian and Elizabeth. He enjoys coaching travel soccer teams at Premier Soccer Academy. He continues to play soccer and has a passion for financial research, apologetics, and marine aquariums.

Matt is an experienced financial advisor who has helped his clients accomplish their financial goals for more than fifteen years. He earned a B.S. degree in Economics. Matt is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. The CFA charter, the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world, represents a tradition of upholding the highest standards of education and integrity in the investment profession. The charter is recognized globally by employers, investment professionals, and investors as the definitive standard by which to measure the competence, integrity, and dedication of serious investment professionals.

Matt has also earned the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst desgination awarded by CAIA Association. The CAIA charter is the globally-recognized credential for professionals managing, analyzing, distributing, or regulating alternative investments.

In addition, he has been certified by the College for Financial Planning as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certificant, which focuses on comprehensive financial planning. Matt also holds the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designation earned through The American College which focuses on the many uses of life insurance for financial and estate planning.

He is committed to a different way of thinking that doesn’t start with product but with process. His primary focus is on holistic financial planning tied to regular interaction with clients and their other core advisors. He is able to address each client’s unique financial situation through a detailed, risk focused approach. This process, coupled with his education and experience, provides the foundation for him to deliver solid solutions for clients.

Matt resides in Hixson, TN with his lovely wife Melanie. He is an avid sports fan with a special affinity for baseball. He is also a student of his industry and enjoys financial reading and research.
